Stavros Niarchos Foundation Donates Boats to Coast Guard
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation donated 10 high-speed inflatable boats to the Greek Coast Guard, to combat illegal immigration plaguing the nation's seas.
According to ANA-MPA, Shipping and Aegean Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis accepted the boats yesterday and stated, "Our target is to keep the borders protected and, of course, to send the message to every direction, that Greece is an organised state".
The boats are the "System 33" model that measure 10.35 meters in length and are powered at 2X250 HP; they are worth a total of 1 million euros. The equipment is also equipped to work in search and rescue efforts, fishing regulations, smuggling and drug trafficking.
The Shipping and Aegean Minister expressed his gratitude to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and commended the Coast Guard for its hard work in the Greek waterways.
