The government's commitment to fully compensate producers affected by the Russian embargo, was reiterated by government spokesman Sophia Voultepsis, speaking on a private channel. She did add, however, that the country will not change alliances.
"The situation in Russia will be smoothed out soon, we will not have a problem with the gas in the winter," added Ms. Voultepsi. Deputy Minister for Rural Development, Paris Koukoulopoulos was emphatic that producers "we will not bear the price” for this situation.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of Imathias, Pieria, Pella, Kozani and Florina exporters , on the Russian embargo will be held at 5 pm on Monday, while produce laden trucks are heading back from the border, since Russia stopped absorbing the agricultural products.
Meanwhile there has been a request by European countries for the immediate convocation of the Council of Ministers of Rural Development in Brussels to decide on the activation of European compensation fund for farmers because of the damages suffered through the Russian embargo.
