Astoria’s Landmark Lefkos Pyrgos Bakery Forced to Relocate
One of Astoria, New York's staples, Lefkos Pyrgos bakery and cafe, must find a new address.
The landmark Greek eatery's lease has run out after almost 40 years and is now searching for a new location as stated by the manager, to the Astoria Post. Lefkos Pyrgos is the last remaining storefront in the area; three businesses are already vacant near the bakery, located at 22-85 31st Street and 23rd Avenue.
Sources have confirmed that the owner of the commercial buildings is vying to rent out all four businesses as one larger property, to the Astoria Post. The owner of Lefkos Pyrgos is in Greece at the moment according to its manager, but will seek a new lease elsewhere, upon his return to Astoria. Lefkos Pyrgos is as close as one can get to a native Greek cafe and bakery in the United States.
