- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) has released updated 2025 fact sheets on the U.S. strategic partnerships with Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, underscoring the expanding defense, diplomatic, and economic ties between the U.S. and its key Eastern Mediterranean allies.
The fact sheets provide policymakers, thought leaders, advocates, and the public with timely insights into how Greece and the Republic of Cyprus contribute to U.S. interests in a region critical to global security.
Greece, a NATO member and long-standing ally, consistently exceeds defense spending targets and supports U.S. operations through assets like Souda Bay and the enhanced Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement (MDCA). Greece’s role in regional stability and joint training with U.S. forces is emphasized throughout the updated brief.
The Republic of Cyprus continues to emerge as a strategic partner, hosting the Cyprus Centre for Land, Open Seas, and Port Security (C.Y.C.L.O.P.S.) training center, facilitating regional cooperation, and supporting U.S. security and humanitarian efforts. The updated fact sheet highlights this expanding defense relationship.
“These fact sheets reaffirm that Greece and the Republic of Cyprus are vital to advancing U.S. interests in the Eastern Mediterranean and are aimed to serve as a resource for policymakers and the community alike,” said President Nick Larigakis said. “We encourage our audience members to share them widely.”
