The Greek-American behind the defense of Charlie Kirk's alleged assasssin

A Greek-American expatriate is behind the legal defense of Tyler Robinson, the alleged murderer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Greg Skordas, although not directly involved in the trial, was the man who undertook to assist, on behalf of Utah County, in finding a suitable defense attorney for the 22-year-old defendant.
“I had to look for lawyers with the appropriate qualifications to handle death penalty cases. Lawyers who would be willing to work for significantly lower than usual fees in a case with high publicity. Certainly, it was not an easy task,” Mr. Skordas told Greek media outlet iefimerida.gr.
According to him, there are not many lawyers who would really want to get into such a case. A case that would receive such great publicity and they might even receive threats as defense attorneys. That is why, after all, the discussions lasted weeks.
"There were discussions with many law firms, inside and outside Utah. The lawyer taking on such a case should have expertise and experience in criminal and death penalty cases,” he emphasizes meaningfully.
The 4th District Court of Utah ruled that Tyler Robinson was indigent and therefore, under the law, a court-appointed lawyer was required to defend him. As Mr. Skordas, who previously ran for the Democratic Party’s seat of Attorney General of the State of Utah, explains, the fee for legal services will be covered by the county budget.
His defense will cost millions
However, although Utah County approved an initial funding of $1 million to defend Tyler Robinson's case, legal circles estimate that the cost of the criminal defense will increase and could even reach 10 million dollars! If one takes into account the experts, investigators and other specialties that may be required in the context of the trial and the appeals that may be filed.
This fact has recently led to a multitude of publications as the huge amounts will have to be covered by Utah taxpayers' money.
Neama Rahmani, Robinson’s criminal defense attorney, predicted that the defense costs would exceed eight figures… “If Tyler Robinson is sentenced to death and has to go through the mandatory Utah state and federal appeals, we’re talking millions of dollars, possibly even over $10 million,” she said in public statements.
It is noted that Charlie Kirk was murdered by a single gunshot wound to the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10.
