- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
History was made on 22 November 2025, when Peter Palivos, Chairman of the Board for Voice of the Veteran, received the United States Army’s Distinguished Public Service Medal (DPSM)—the highest civilian award bestowed by the Army and granted by order of Secretary of the Army Daniel P. Driscoll.
This prestigious honor, reserved for individuals whose service has made exceptionally outstanding contributions to the U.S. Army, was presented by General Andrew Poppas, a four-star general and Commanding General of the United States Army Forces Command. With this award, Peter Palivos becomes the first civilian in Nevada’s history to receive the DPSM.
Significantly, Peter Palivos is only one of several people in America to receive this honor in 2025 and is the first Nevadan Citizen in 161 years to receive this great honor.
The ceremony took place at the Palivos residence in Henderson, Nevada, where more than 100 distinguished guests assembled to celebrate the occasion. Attendees were welcomed with valet service, live music, and an extravagant catered spread—through the generous hospitality of Mrs. Vicky Palivos. The guest list included:
Four U.S. Army and Air Force Generals included:
4 Star US Army General Andrew Poppas
US Air Force Major General Ondra Berry
US Army Brigadier General Brandon Anderson
US Army Brigadier General Troy Armstrong
Also in attendance were:
US Congresswoman Susie Lee
Nevada Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony
Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley
Former Henderson Mayor Debra March
Dozens of Veterans and community leaders
Those in attendance witnessed a historic moment honoring a man whose life has consistently placed Duty, Honor, and Country above all else.
The honor was approved by U.S. Secretary of the Army, Daniel P. Driscoll and was formally presented to Mr. Palivos by Army Four-Star General Andrew Poppas on November 22, 2025, in Henderson, Nevada. “Peter Palivos is a leader who doesn’t just support our Military community—he champions them with relentless passion and purpose,” said U.S. Major General Ondra Berry, in recognition of Palivos’ achievements. As Chairman of Voice of the Veteran, which is headquartered in Las Vegas, Mr. Palivos has a 30 year history of supporting U.S. Veteran and Military families. Most recently, in 2024 he served as the visionary force behind the June 8, 2024, Day of Gratitude Event at Allegiant Stadium.
A Night of Inspiration and Tribute
General Poppas delivered a powerful and moving speech honoring Mr. Palivos’ more than three decades of unwavering advocacy for Veterans, Military Members, and their families. His remarks—highlighting Palivos’ character, patriotism, and life of service—brought the audience to their feet in a standing ovation.
Following General Poppas, Voice of the Veteran CEO Bob Maxwell read a formal letter from US Secretary of the Army Daniel P. Driscoll, which stated:
“The Distinguished Public Service Medal is awarded to Peter Palivos for his unwavering volunteer contributions and commitment to Veterans, Military Members, and Family Members from June 2022 through June 2025. Mr. Palivos’ visionary leadership, relentless dedication, and heartfelt compassion have not only transformed lives but set a standard of excellence in service to our Nation’s Heroes. His work reflects the core values that strengthen our country and inspires those who strive to make a difference. His leadership for Voice of the Veteran has driven impactful, life-changing initiatives that embody the Army values of loyalty, duty, selfless service, and integrity. Mr. Palivos’ devotion reflects great credit to him, Voice of the Veteran, and the United States Army.”

A Message of Unity
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Palivos spoke passionately about the importance of unity in America during these challenging times. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Palivos stated: “As patriotic Americans we should not be Red or Blue Americans… we must be Red, White, and Blue Americans. True patriotism requires that we- the people that love this great country- work together to preserve our nation and service our nation better. This means respecting our institutions, respecting our fellow citizens, and make a commitment to doing good deeds that address the needs of our great nation ”. His words were met with applause, cheer, and multiple standing ovations. His words served as a reminder that patriotism, compassion, and service to fellow Americans rise above politics.
