The historic Westminster Abbey hosted a special Christian ceremony dedicated to the spiritual preparation for Christmas, attended by His Eminence Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain, Mr. Niketas, as well as King Charles.

Clergy, diplomats and representatives of Christian communities from around the world gathered at the imposing church, honoring those who bear witness to their faith whether living in peace or being tested under difficult circumstances. During the ceremony, prayers for peace, justice and hope were offered, in view of the great feast of the Nativity.

His Eminence Archbishop prayed fervently for the unity of the Church and for the strengthening of those who suffer because of their faith, expressing wishes for the whole world who await Christmas with joy. During the service, His Eminence Archdeacon Dr. George Tsourous read the passage from the Evangelist Luke (1:26-38) in the original Greek text, conveying the message of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and the divine promise that marks the period of the Lord’s Redemption.

The Holy Archdiocese contributed to the ceremony by offering two holy icons to the Abbey, with the icon of Christ being placed in a prominent position in the main church. In a touching moment during the greetings, His Eminence informed King Charles that the icon was offered as a gift from the Archdiocese “to protect him”, with the monarch accepting the kind gesture and expressing warm thanks.

The Holy Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain expressed its gratitude to Westminster Abbey for the hospitality and the opportunity to meet Christians from all over the world during the spiritually charged period of preparation for Christmas.
