22-year-old football player collapses during game in east Athens, dies shortly thereafter

Α 22-year-old football player collapsed on the pitch on Wednesday afternoon and died shortly thereafter during a third division match in the east Athens district of Ilioupolis.
The player, identified as Alexandros Labi, suddenly collapsed without contact in the first minutes of the game between Ilioupolis and Ermionida.
Team physicians rushed to his side and administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to revive him, as well as making use of a defibrillator, as severely cardiac arrest was suspected.
An ambulance arrived after some 15 minutes to transport the man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced died upon arrival.
