Greek rower Stefanos Ntouskos won the gold medal in the single sculls at the World Rowing Championships on Sunday, defeating the reigning world champion to claim his first-ever world title.
Ntouskos finished the race with a time of 6:36.75, unleashing a decisive sprint in the final meters to secure the victory, according to public broadcaster ERT.
Germany's Oliver Zeidler, the outgoing world champion, took the silver medal, while Yauheni Zalaty of Belarus won the bronze.
The gold medal is a new career high for Ntouskos at the World Championships, following a sixth-place finish in 2022 and a fourth-place finish in 2023.
