Sakkari achieved the point of the year at the Australian Open

Maria Sakkari started her Australian Open campaign with a right-handed win over Leolia Zanjan (6-4, 6-2) and qualified for the second round of the tournament.
However, what stole the show was neither Sakkari's victory, nor her comeback from 0-3 down in the first set, but the shot she made to win the point in the second set.
With the game 4-2 in her favor, Sakkari not only reacted to her opponent's serve but also managed to pass the ball past the net before it landed on the tartan to win the point.
"This is the motto to pick your jaw up off the floor after THIS amazing comeback by Sakkari," the Australian Open account sto X wrote in the video.
"I've never managed a shot like this in my life. I'm 30 years old and I've been playing tennis for 25 years and I could never have imagined that I could achieve it. You've seen it from Roger (ed. Federer) and Carlos (ed. Alcaraz) and now from me. I think she's a candidate for the tournament point," Sakkari said after the match, with the journalist agreeing, saying, "I think so too."
In the second round, Maria Sakkari awaits the winner of the match between Mira Andreeva and Donna Vekic, where she will claim a ticket to the third round.
She found a rhythm and took the set with five straight games
The first set started ideally for Leolia Zanjan. The Frenchwoman started the match and maintained her service game (1-0), which was followed by a break in Maria Sakkari's serve (2-0). For her part, the Greek tried to achieve the break in Zanjan's next service game, but did not take advantage of the break point that appeared, seeing her opponent make it 3-0.
In the fourth game, the Greek tennis player maintained her serve (3-1), with the Frenchwoman then making another hold (4-1). From there, the world No. 52 increased the pace and this resulted in creating many problems for her opponent. With five consecutive games, Maria Sakkari overturned the score in the set, which she closed with 6-4 to take the lead in the match.
With another run came the qualification
In the second set, the two tennis players started solidly behind their serve. Leolia Zanzan started serving, with Maria Sakkari following. Both lasted two games, until the Greek athlete achieved another run
With a break in the 5th game, the 30-year-old tennis player took the lead in the set which she extended by making an easy hold (4-2). This pattern was repeated once more, so that Sakkari could celebrate winning the set (6-2) and at the same time the victory that gave her the ticket to the second round of the competition.
