There are two issues for Greek tourism after the lifting of curbs to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, stated Alternate Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis on Tuesday to MEGA TV.
First, the creation of a support package for the tourism sector and the European coordination of measures for air transport to avoid new flare-ups of the virus.
"The aim is to have a European health protocol for the boarding of passengers," he said, adding that the issue of tourism is very high on the European agenda thanks to the insistent efforts of Greece and other countries.
He clarified that there are no plans to bar the entrance of people from specific countries that have a major problem with the virus.
Varvitsiotis also announced an amendment of the EU budget and an acceleration of procedures, estimating that more funds will be given in comparison with the previous NSFR. He also explained that for countries with high public debt as a percentage of GDP, such as Greece, the aim is for the greater part of the funds to be allocated through direct subsidies instead of loans.
Finally, he underlined the increased trust of Greek society in state authorities, the Greek national health system and security services, thanks to the coordinated moves of the Greek government against the coronavirus.
