As the “queen of changes and contrasts”, Ios is being promoted by the international media for holidays in 2026, following the new tourism narrative of the Municipality of Ios.
The British Times ranks Ios Town among the 25 most beautiful villages in Greece, stating that “the island’s capital consists of many cute houses that resemble sugar cubes”.
The winding alleys climb up to the church of Panagia Gremiotissa with its blue dome, for the most magnificent view of the sea and the sunset. In addition to the intense entertainment, Ios has many surprises in store for history lovers, such as the impressive concentric terraced remains of the ancient city of Skarkos from 2300 BC and the Tomb of Homer”.
Fun, nature activities, cultural experiences
In addition, the Italian travel website Wom.Travel.it analyzes the current trends for youth trips, explaining how young people choose destinations that combine fun with nature activities and cultural experiences.
In this context, among regions from Spain, Italy, Croatia, Greece, the Netherlands, Malta and Great Britain, Ios occupies ninth place among the 14 “new generation” destinations in Europe that combine many different elements.

In the same vein, the French travel guide Petite Fute also includes Ios in its annual established list of the best Greek islands. “Our concern is no longer only the enrichment of travel experiences but the creation of a destination with a quality of life for both visitors and residents,” adds the Mayor of Ieta, Gikas Gikas.
In this context, and following the efforts of the Municipality of Ieta and the immediate response of the Ministry of Interior, funding for damage repair and infrastructure improvement of 100,000 euros was secured, as well as the registration for the first time of the construction project of an indoor gym for 1,862,000 euros in the Public Investment Program. The sports complex, which can serve residents and tourists, will consist of two tranches. The first tranche, the indoor gym, will include the main competition area where matches and training sessions will be held, as well as the stands. The second tranche will concern two complete units of athletes' locker rooms with the ability to serve people with disabilities, an administration office with locker rooms for referees and a medical office.
