NYC Vision Zero Plan Reduces Traffic Deaths

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is vying for his Vision Zero protocol.

The plan's goal is to reduce traffic deaths across New York City. The New York Police Department confirmed that 51 people were killed in traffic mishaps, from January 1st to March 30th, 2014. This number is inclusive of pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

This reveals a 26% decrease, compared to last year's same timeframe. Over a thousand injuries have been reduced as well. Mayor de Blasio's Vision Zero mandate has promised to wipe out traffic fatalities across the city, within a ten year span. The Mayor has called for the redesign of accident-prone intersections and heavier traffic violation enforcements.
