President Anastasiades Requests Cyprus Airways Investigation

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades has requested an investigation concerning the bidding method regarding Cyprus Airways.

President Anastasiades declared he will resign from his presidential post if it is revealed that he altered the procedure at all, as reported by Parikiaki. The President's request follows media claims that his previous law firm represented Ryanair's bid on the national air carrier.

Phileleftheros daily published leaked papers, that reportedly revealed the government's bargaining with Ryanair, even though it offered a substantial amount less than other denied acquirers. The Cypriot President ceased collaborating with the law firm that holds his name after being sworn in as President in 2013. However his two daughters own a 50% share of the firm and work there.

Anastasiades stated of the investigation, "I want to declare if the investigations ascertain any type of intervention whatsoever, by myself or my former law office in the decisions taken, I will resign from presidential office." Nicos Chr Anastasiades & Partners law firm claimed it did not have any current relations with Ryanair, after withdrawing its initial agreed representation, due to a conflict of interest back on September 30th.
