UK Foreign Office Pens Cyprus EEZ Letter

The letter was wrtten to National Federation of Cypriots in the UK President Peter Droussiotis. Droussiotis initially wrote letters to the British Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary, that asked for the denunciation of Turkey's illegal EEZ activity in Southern Cyprus.

The UK letter, ratified by a Foreign Office delegate stated that EEZ findings should be administered on the behalf of, "all the communities in Cyprus," as reported by Parikiaki. The letter added, "We have continued to call on all parties to avoid inflammatory actions or statements."

The letter addressed Droussiotis, "As you note, the incident comes at an important time in the UN-facilitated talks. This ongoing dispute puts at risk the UN's efforts, while underlining the importance of reaching a comprehensive settlement. We therefore hope that settlement talks can resume at the earliest opportunity, and proceed successfully."

The UK correspondence concludes with, "Recognition of the EU and its Member States is a requirement laid out in the EU accession criteria that apply to Turkey."
