U.S. Asst. Secretary of State for European & Eurasian Affairs & Greek Foreign Minister Discuss Cyprus
The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland met with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias recently in Washington, D.C., where the two leaders discussed the Cyprus issue.
The Greek Foreign Minister stated of the discussion on the divided nation, "...all our Western partners are interested in a solution"." Kotzias added, "the Cyprus settlement must be a good resolution that will be accepted by the Cypriot people," according to Parikiaki.
The meeting between the two global delegates comes after Nuland's return from Turkey. Cyprus has been illegally split since 1974, when Turkey invaded the island. UN-approved peace discussions are scheduled to restart next month, after Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades withdrew his participation, after Turkey illegally entered the Exclusive Economic Zone.
