Greek, Cypriot & Turkish Chambers of Commerce Assist Island Solution
The Greek, Cypriot, and Turkish Chambers of Commerce voiced their support today, regarding assisting an island solution and UN led discussions.
In a collaborative statement from Nicosia, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (TCCC), the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UHCCI) confirmed the establishment of the "Nicosia Economic Forum", to be held regularly, according to Parikiaki.
CCCI President Phidias Pilides read a statement in Greek, while TCCC President Fikri Toros read it in Turkish. It stated, "The status quo is indeed unacceptable and its prolongation will have negative consequences for all".
The three Chambers commented that a Cypriot solution will have major benefits for the whole region, "that encompasses Cyprus, Greece and Turkey within an enlarged EU, where democratic principles, human rights and fundamental freedoms will be respected". The next meeting to be held by the Greek, Cypriot and Turkish Chambers is scheduled for September 14th.
