Cyprus Requests Global Support Over Division
Cypriot Defense Minister Christoforos Phokaides requested that the EU and the global arena urge Turkey to abide by UN resolutions regarding Cyprus, according to reports.
At a Nicosia memorial service commemorating the lives lost during the 1974 Turkish invasion, the Minister stated, "The time has come to put an end to this aberration of having an EU member state under occupation", as reported by Parikiaki.
Phokaides also spoke of Turkey's requirements, concerning the nation's EU accession attempt. Additionally, the Minister discussed President Nicos Anastasiade's efforts to attract worldwide concern over the matter and the attributes of the nation's energy sources. Yesterday, July 20th, marked the 40th year since Turkey invaded the Northern territory of Cyprus.
