Central Bank of Cyprus Defers FBME Operations

Today, the Central Bank of Cyprus interrupted all operations in Tanzania-based FBME bank’s Cypriot locations until this Friday, according to Kathimerini.

It has been reported that the suspension could occur for two additional days. The interruption comes after Monday’s decision by the Central Bank, regarding an investigation over U.S. currency laundering at FBME bank.

FBME branches on Cyprus are approximated to contain deposits worth 1.7 billion euros. The bank has denied all money laundering charges, while the Central Bank of Cyprus has voiced its goal to sell local FBME capital, after freezing all of it last Friday.
