Turkish journalists arrested in Alexandroupolis, then released

Journalists of the Turkish channel TRT were arrested by police in Alexandroupolis.

They are the video engineer Ufuk Karagulu, journalist Fatih Sabunzhu and channel associate Metin Talu. The three of them made trial shooting for a reportage on the occasion of the failed coup d'état in Turkey, two years ago.

About 3.5 hours after their arrest, they were released, and according to some Turkish media, there was an intervention by Turkey's Foreign Minister, Mevlut Tsavousoglou.

Sabundu told the Anadolu news agency that they were arrested unnecessarily. "I have worked in many countries, but I have not seen such behavior even in countries where you can call the worst of the world," the reporter said. "It is a very bad form of violence. I am very sorry for that, "he added, while arguing that although they told Greek police officers that they were journalists, they were rough handled.

"They took our phones, pushed us into the car. They took purses, papers, notes from our pockets. They put us in separate vehicles and took us to to the police station. After 3.5 hours we were told that it was a routine check, "the Turkish journalist added.
