Police chase immigrant smuggler vehicle in the center of Thessaloniki

The situation in Thessaloniki with illegal immigrants and constant flows to the city center is extremely difficult, with the danger now being high.

The incident, this morning, on Lagadas Street, is also characteristic, as it involved a vehicle carrying illegal immigrants. Specifically, shortly after 08:30 an off-duty policeman riding in his own vehicle in an area outside of Thessaloniki saw a vehicle with nine people aboard, in front of him. From experience, he immediately understood that they were illegal immigrants. He immediately contacted the police center and followed the vehicle.

The smugglers entered the center of Thessaloniki and Lagadas Street, as the off duty policeman's vehicle was joined by squad cars and police on motorcycles. They signalled the vehicle with the illegal immigrants to stop, but they did not respond and instead picked up speed. However, they collided with another passing vehicle and a motorcycle, but again they tried to escape. Eventually a policeman shot in the air for intimidation and the vehicle stopped.

This ended the chase after which all were arrested. Lluckily there was no injury from the incident.
