Mitsotakis meets with Eurogroup president Donohoe

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Tuesday with Eurogroup president and Finance Minister of Ireland Paschal Donohoe, who is visiting Greece to participate in the conference "Resilience, Progress, Outlook" organised by Greek Finance Minister Christos Staikouras.
Mitsotakis said that it is a great opportunity to sum up all those we have achieved and to identify the next period's challenges because our work never ends.
On his part, Donohoe congratulated Greece on the constructive participation in the Eurogroup headed by Finance Minister Christos Staikouras and on the Greek economy's performance in the last years while supporting social cohesion.
Mitsotakis thanked Donohoe for his visit and the opportunity to discuss everything they have achieved over the last years.
"It is a great honour to be here and I am looking forward to this conference later today in order to point out the huge progress that has been achieved", Donohoe said.
According to government sources, during the meeting Greece's stable financial performance with high growth rates and low inflation was discussed while they also exchanged views on the eurozone economic conditions and its prospects in the shadow of the crises caused by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
Mitsotakis also that the constant implementation of sustainable fiscal policies by the EU member states should be combined with a renewed economic governance framework at the EU level.
The current financial instability in the international system and the extent to which the European financial system is affected were also discussed.
Finally, there was a common understanding that progress on the completion of the Banking Union and the deepening of the Capital Markets Union are imperative to the achievement of the EU's goals in terms of its international competitiveness, its open strategic autonomy, as well as the dual transition, green and digital.
