More than 160 kilos of cocaine seized in Thessaloniki port
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A large quantity of cocaine weighing more than 160 kilograms, originating from Ecuador, was seized by the Thessaloniki Narcotics Bureau at the city's port, it was reported on Saturday.
The drug was placed in two containers of a legal cargo of bananas. The illegal cargo is reportedly connected to the quantity of 105 kilos seized last month in Thessaloniki; in that case, 10 people were arrested, among them a 68-year-old doctor who had previously been employed by the prosecuting authorities of Northern Greece for fuel and cigarette smuggling cases.
Success in this latest drugs bust is the result of cooperation between the General Affairs Department of the Thessaloniki Narcotics Bureau with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
The cocaine was destined for a storefront company in North Macedonia, just like the cargo seized in May.
