A robbery that ended with the perpetrator being found dead occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the village of Panariti in the Municipality of Nafplio in Argolida.
The case began after a 72-year-old woman who was selling citrus fruits at an outdoor stall on the Nafplio-Mycenae provincial road, opposite her house, was attacked by a 50-year-old man who, at knifepoint, took 60 euros from her.
As the woman told the police, when the man threatened her with a 20-centimeter knife, she herself hit him in the chest with an 11-centimeter knife that she had for peeling fruit.
The injured 50-year-old left the scene, disappeared into the surrounding fields and was eventually found dead approximately 100 meters away, in an orange grove.
According to information, the knife with which he had threatened the 72-year-old was found next to him.
It is noted that, based on the woman's statement, the 50-year-old had passed in front of the 72-year-old's bench on a bicycle while her 60-year-old nephew was with him.
The 72-year-old was taken to the Argolida Hospital for treatment, where she remains under observation, while she is expected to be taken to the Police Department and the Nafplio prosecutor to give a statement regarding the events.
Authorities are examining the circumstances of the attack and if this was a case of self-defense, while also investigating the role of the second man who participated in the incident.
