- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has held separate phone calls with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Palestinian President Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, focusing on the need for stability in Libya and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, respectively.
In the call with Mr. Rubio, the two men discussed the situation in Libya and the need to advance a political process that leads to free elections and removes "foreign presence and influences" from the country, a veiled reference to Turkey's role there.
According to the state-run Athens News Agency, they also reviewed the "excellent level" of U.S.-Greece relations and the need to control illegal migration flows from North Africa.
Later, in his conversation with Mr. Abbas, the Greek prime minister expressed deep concern over the "humanitarian disaster in Gaza," according to reports.
Mr. Mitsotakis called for an immediate ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas, and an uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid.
He also expressed Greece's support for the Palestinian National Authority as the "only legal representative of the Palestinian people."
