Mitsotakis from Brussels: Europe's defense vision extends to 360 degrees, it was a permanent Greek position

Featured Mitsotakis from Brussels: Europe's defense vision extends to 360 degrees, it was a permanent Greek position

Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the EU's defense armor as well as initiatives for cheaper energy in his statement, arriving at the Summit of European Leaders on Ukraine, in the wake of Donald Trump's sanctions on Russia.

As the Prime Minister said, among other things, in his statement, "Greek initiatives are gaining their own momentum." At the same time, when asked about it, he commented that US sanctions can contribute as a means of pressure on Russia to sit at the dialogue table.

In his statement upon arriving at the Summit, Mr. Mitsotakis said:

"I would like to express my satisfaction that the conclusions of the European Council include the defense vision of Europe, which extends over 360 degrees. This is something that has always been a consistent Greek position. I would also like to express my satisfaction because the Greek initiatives that were decided some time ago, such as a common EU missile defense system, seem to be gaining their own momentum and are included in the European Commission's roadmap as presented a few days ago. The second issue that I want to address is the issue of competitiveness. European competitiveness cannot exist without low energy prices and it is clear that today there are large differences in energy prices between many European countries. I am glad that this is now recognised and that the European Commission has made specific commitments on how we can achieve lower energy prices across Europe so that there are no such differences that operate to the detriment of some EU Member States. The third issue that I am glad is being discussed at the European Council level is housing issues. The Greek government has undertaken a series of initiatives to address the increased cost of housing. I would like to mention, for example, that at the end of November, a full rent will be refunded to all tenants in our country. However, it is very important to explain that the issue also has a European dimension and to think about how the next European budget can also use European resources to address this issue. "Especially for our fellow citizens who are renting, young Europeans must feel that acquiring their own home is not an unattainable dream."
