Today Brings Greek Local & European Parliament Elections
Today, Greek citizens vote in the second round of local and European Parliament elections.
Approximately two-hundred regions will participate in municipal elections. The nation is widely focused on the electoral outcome of Greece's major cities; Athens, Thessaloniki, Volos and Patra. In an intense race, reigning Athenian Mayor Giorgos Kaminis, who is supported by both New Democracy and PASOK, is running against SYRIZA candidate Gavriil Sakellaridis for the capital's candidacy.
Twenty-one MEPs will be chosen out of 1,299 candidates in today's European Parliamentary elections. Opposition parties have called upon voters to administer the election into a governmental referendum. Recent polls have revealed the SYRIZA is currently leading in today's electoral race.
