Melbourne Plans Greek & English Street Signs

Premier Daniel Andrews' spokesman stated that the Australian government is, "very keen to see done" these efforts, as reported by Neos Kosmos. The spokesman added, "We absolutely support bilingual signage in the Greek precinct, but we're working towards something more broad where we can see that rolled out in other precincts around Victoria."

Opposition chief Matthew Guy spearheaded the initiative and believes that the plan will enhance the city's multiculturalism. Guy described to the Greek-Australian news portal, "I think if you have bilingual signs throughout, it actually tells anyone walking through that area that this is the Greek precinct."

Guy furthered his comments, "The Greek precinct, because it's on Lonsdale Street and on bigger roads, it's not too defined and I think signage around the precinct will help massively...It will certainly have a great impact on that whole area." The government is now determining the costs on the Greek street sign efforts. It has not been verified yet as to when the final plan will be enacted or announced.
