Economic diplomacy: Government's core component of foreign relations
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Economic diplomacy will be a core component of Greek foreign policy, along with traditional activities, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Kostas Fragogiannis told a parliamentary committee on Tuesday.
Briefing the standing national defense and foreign affairs committee, Fragogiannis said a general secretariat of international economic relations and extroversion would be created combining several services at the ministry. The government's strategic targets, he reiterated, focus on supporting Greek exports, attracting investments and redefining on an international level Greece's extroverted image.
Speaking of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's recent visit to Shanghai for the China International Import Expo 2019, where Greece was one of the honored countries, he noted that there were two Greek pavilions, one focusing on agricultural and food industries and another where B2B meetings could take place.
A total of 213 representatives of Chinese businesses and 93 of Greek ones took part in meetings. Sectors included energy and construction, food and beverages, information technologies, shipping, and financial services among others.
