The New Democracy Member of Parliament for the Cyclades, Mr. Filippos Fortomas and President of the Special Standing Committee on Hellenism in the Diaspora had the great pleasure of welcoming to the Parliament students, parents and teachers of the school A. FANTIS SCHOOL of the Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen based in Brooklyn New York.

The students of the school, accompanied by Father Evagoras, Priestly Head of the community of Saints Constantine & Helen, teachers and the parents of the students, were in Greece. In this context, they were invited by Mr. Fortomas, to visit the Hellenic Parliament, to take a guided tour of the exhibition "Facing Freedom! In the Parliament of the Hellenes two centuries later" as well as in the building and to get to know its history, but also to watch from the gallery the meeting of the Plenary of the Parliament.

The visit of the students was honored with the presence of the Ambassador of the United States of America in Greece, Mr. George Tsunis, who welcomed students, parents and teachers and addressed them with greetings.

In his speech to the children, the accompanying parents and the teachers of the school, thw Ambassador spoke of the influence of ancient Greece and especially ancient Athens on the world spirit, referring specifically to the contribution of the ancient Greeks to the arts and sciences. He also pointed out how important the role of these children is in becoming ambassadors of Greek culture. The MP welcomed the students explaining the role and importance of the Parliament for democracy and the work done by the Parliament and the MPs.

At the end of the visit, Mr. Fortomas said: "We are filled with joy and emotion to welcome in the temple of our Republic, the Greek children of the diaspora as well as American students, who are the most vivid hope for strengthening and spreading the values, of our language and culture. These visits make visible the common thread that unites the Greeks who live in Greece, not only with the Greeks who are all over the world, but also with those who, although not Greeks, participate in Greek education programs. I have to thank the US Ambassador to our country, Mr. George Tsuni, for his honorable presence, but also for the very warm and meaningful words he addressed to the attendees. Finally, a special thank you goes to Father Evagoras, Priestly Head of the community of Saints Constantine & Helen, for all his cooperation in making this visit possible".
