New York, NY – The Greek community in New York gathered at the Greek Consulate last week to celebrate the release of the book, “The Extraordinary Greek People: Their Remarkable Achievements and Philosophy for Living from Ancient Times to Today.”

Author of the book Andy Manatos, explores the achievements of Greek people throughout history, highlighting stories of the past and the present. In the book, Greek Orthodox Archbishop of America Elpidophoros introduces the personal essays of 60 successful Greeks, who reflect on how their Hellenic identity has contributed to their success.

Through personal anecdotes and historical facts on the Hellenic heritage, Manatos explores what it means to be Greek, the timeless values of Hellenism and Orthodoxy, and the “philotimo” or love of honor, a prominent trait of every Greek’s identity.

To celebrate the release of the book and its impact on the global Hellenic community, the Consul General of Greece in New York Dinos Konstantinou, along with his wife Myrsini, welcomed Greek-Americans in a book signing event.

In his remarks, Mr. Konstantinou characterized the book as a legacy that will preserve Greek history and values throughout generations, helping younger Greek-Americans get in touch with their heritage, according to an article by Hellenic News of America.

The media outlet also reported that Author Manatos, during his speech at the Consulate, emphasized how Hellenism is not an inherent trait, but rather an adopted system of values and culture.
