Promoting Hippocratic Medicine for over Two Decades.

The International Hippocratic Foundation of Kos, Greece, along with the Global Doctors Hippocratic Institute, the Municipality of Kos and Medical Association of Kos and other Authorities, are hosting the Hippocratic Week from October 14 - 19, 2024.

This event celebrates the legacy of Hippocrates, the "Father of Medicine," and his contributions to modern medical ethics and practice. The foundation, established in 1960, continues to serve as a hub for medical professionals and scholars worldwide, promoting the core values of Hippocratic medicine such as ethics, compassion, and the importance of a holistic approach to health.

The President, Nikolaos Papantoniou, MD, PhD, Em. Prof. Of Obgyn. National Kapodistrian University of Athens, and his team have organized an impactful week with the aim of the foundation to showcase the museum of Hippocratic Medicine, the ancient Hippocratic dispensary, the ancient pharmacy, the Botanical Garden, the Hippocratic Library, and to hold conferences and lectures to disseminate Hippocratic Medicine, Philosophy and Ethics.

Hippocrates Week is set to include a variety of activities, such as:

Lectures and Panels: Leading medical professionals and scholars will discuss the impact of Hippocratic Medicine & Philosophy on modern healthcare.

Workshops and Educational Programs: These will cover ancient medical practices, the significance of the Hippocratic Oath, and the ethical dimensions of medicine today.

Exhibitions: Visitors will explore historical medical tools and texts at the Hippocratic Museum and learn about ancient treatments in the Hippocratic Botanical Garden, which features herbs used by Hippocrates himself.

Cultural Tours: Guests can take part in guided tours of the Hippocratic Altis, a serene garden honoring Hippocrates, as well as nearby archaeological sites like the Asklepion of the ancient city of KOS and the island of Kalymnos.

This annual event fosters an international exchange of ideas, blending history with modern advancements in healthcare, all in the birthplace of Hippocrates.
