An earthquake near Crete of up to 5.8 on the Richter scale will not surprise us, says seismologist

The Professor of Dynamic Tectonics, Applied Geology & Natural Disaster Management, Efthymis Lekkas, considers the seismic activity in the region of Crete to be normal.
Speaking on Athens 98.4, Mr Lekkas referred to the 4.6 magnitude earthquake on May 2, saying the large seismic sequence, which continues to expand, was expected.
Since then, he said, hundreds of earthquakes have occurred. "The phenomenon is progressing smoothly, we do not feel these earthquakes, so there is no cause for concern," he said, adding that he would not be surprised by a 5.7 to 5.8 magnitude earthquake.
In fact, he noted that this may be legitimate, as "this post-earthquake sequence will end."
