Greek Press Protests & Strikes Today
Today various press unions and journalists demonstrated outside the Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA) at noon.
Wednesday marks a year since ERT state broadcaster was closed down. Media sector worker unions held a four-hour strike. A march was held at 1:00 p.m. that began at Klafthmonos Square and ended in front of the Finance Ministry. They were met by former Finance Ministry sanitation workers, in their continued protest regarding lay-offs and firings.
ESIEA announced that today is "not a landmark day" for the common benefit of news; it is a "black day of disgrace for democracy and the news media of Greece", as reported by ANA-MPA. Political delegates are predicted to confront another protest planned for 7:00 p.m., in front of ERT's previous main office.
