Maziotis' hideout yields clues

The apartment in Kato Patisia which Nikos Maziotis and members of his team used as a safe house, is yielding significant information.

Although Counterterrorism police officers are keeping mum, waiting for the results of the examinations of forensic laboratories and despite the fact that no weapons were found, the apartment in Kato Patisia which Nikos Maziotis and members of his team used as a safe house, is yielding significant information and helping ongoing investigations to identify the underground organization.

The Michael Voda street apartment, that was rented a year ago by a person using a fake identity had long been identified by police.  However, it was not raided with the expectation that some of the members of the organization might visit. Once verified that there was no movement, in the beginning of the month, they conducted a raid.

Speaking to Sunday Ethnos newspaper a senior Counterterrorism official, stated that "the apartment was functional, although still half empty. We believe that for some unknown reason it was not used after the arrest of Nikos Maziotis. There are many usable items, but we have to wait for the results of forensic investigations. "

According to information from the newspaper, no fingerprints or genetic material of Nikos Maziotis and Pola Roupa were found in the apartment, but neither of Giorgos Petrakakis involved in robberies along with Maziotis.

However, as the same source indicated, evidence has been found of other people who have visited the apartment. Police sources appreciate that this genetic material and fingerprints is at least three members of the group, whose only link with the antiauthoritarian groups is Nikos Maziotis.

Inquests now focus on the period Maziotis was detained in Korydallos prison, since it is thought that is when he became acquainted with criminal elements. Police considers that the period was crucial for criminal elements to become "sponsors" of the "revolutionary fund".

Meanwhile, Counterterrorism officers believe that under the guidance of the "missing" Pola Roupa, new and old members of "Revolutionary Struggle" are preparing a large terrorist strike as a "response" to the Maziotis arrest.
