Military maneuvers to be attended by NATO SG

With the presence of the new NATO Secretary General, Norway's Jens Stoltenberg, the joint exercise “Pyrpolitis 9/14,” will be held Thursday, October 30.

According to the information so far, the new NATO Secretary General is conducting his first official visit to Greece, with his new status under the so-called "first circle of acquaintance" in all the capitals of the member states of the Alliance. Last week he visited Ankara for this purpose. Within the framework of his stay here, he will be received, according to the protocol as "head of state", by the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and National Defense Evangelos Venizelos, and Dimitris Avramopoulos respectively.
While here he has been invited by the MoD Dimitris Avramopoulos to watch the joint exercise with titled "Pyrpolitis 9/14" of the Greek Rapid Reaction Defence Force.
The exercise will take place in the area around the Saronic Gulf, probably on the islet of Dokos, and the scenario will be the well-rehearsed recapture of an islet.
This is the ninth “Pyrpolitis” exercise for this year, and this will involve elite Army Special Forces units (Z Amphibious Commando Battalion and the Special Paratrooper Detachment), the Navy (Underwaterr Demolitions Command) and Air Force (31st Search & Rescue Operations Squadron), units of Fleet Headquarters and fighter aircraft Squadrons of the Tactical Air Headquarters and transport helicopters of Army Aviation.
