Greece Faces Human Rights Court over Gay Rights
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The plenum of the European Court of Human Rights is to opine on the rights of same sex couples to "co-habitate" under law, in Greece.
The suit against Greece has been tendered by gay rights activist Grigoris Valianatos and eight other Greek citizens. In the suit the plaintiffs are demanding the extension of the law recognizing legal rights to cohabitating heterosexual couples to include same sex couples.
According to the plaintiffs, the law violates the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights that bans discrimination and upholds the right to personal and family life.
