Divers and trailers are struggling to shore up the ship "Panagia Tinou"

A huge effort is under way in the port of Piraeus in order to deter the sinking of the ship "Panagia Tinou".

Divers and tugs operating on the spot seem to have managed to shore up the ship, which slowly seems to be returning to its normal position in the water.

Shortly after 11:45 alarm was sounded at the port of Piraeus at pier in Q4, as the immobilized boat "Panagia Tinou" was sinking.

The ship belongs to Ventouris Sea Lines and had been impounded due to financial problems.

It was built in 1960 and in 1978 it was sold to Ventouris Ferry to service the Piraeus-Syros-Tinos-Mykonos route. In 1981 it was named "Panagia Tinou".

In January 2015 the ship had traveled briefly to Cythera, but after crew stopped working it was tied up permanently.
