Hotelier and publisher Konstantinos Mitsis passes

Konstantinos Mitsis, the founder of Mitsis Hotels and publisher of Vradini newspaper, passed away on the morning of Sunday, August 28.

Born in the village Kryoneri in Pogoni, Ioannina, Konstantinos Mitsis went to Athens at a young age. At the age of 17 he opened a small textile enterprise with 30 employees and in less than ten years the business had a staff of 170 people.

After abandoning his dream of a theatrical career, Konstantinos Mitsis became involved in the hospitality industry and in 1978 he opened his first hotel, Ramira, on the island of Kos. Ramira is page one of the Mitsis Hotels story, the first milestone which led to the presence today of Mitsis hotels in Rhodes, Crete, Corfu, Athens, Mykonos, Ioannina, and Kamena Vourla.

A pioneering spirit, Konstantinos Mitsis created the first all-inclusive hotel, Norida, on Kos.

Today the Mitsis business group is active in publishing, textiles, construction and winemaking. The heart of the enterprise, however, beats in the hospitality and tourism sector.

The funeral service for Konstantinos Mitsis will be held on Tuesday, August 30, at 15:00, at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens and he will be buried in his hometown of Kryoneri, Ioannina, on Wednesday, August 31.
