Regling believes IMF will be part of Greek program

The head of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) Klaus Regling expressed his belief that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will participate in the Greek program, during an event in Brussels on Wednesday titled “25 Years of Maastricht Treaty - The Future of EMU".

"Allow me to note that I believe the IMF will be part of solving the last remaining case of the previous crisis: Greece,” he said, adding however that “it’s likely that IMF will not play same role in next Eurozone area crisis”.
"The ESM could play a bigger role,” he said. “ESM could develop into institution that is more similar to the IMF than it is now.”
He noted however that this would require an ESM treaty change, perhaps even an EU treaty change and therefore consensus among member-states.
