Justice Minister stresses importance of restoring confidence in Justice

The confidence of the Greek people must be restored not only to the political institutions and the politicians, but also to Justice, which is the ultimate refuge of the citizens in every part of the world, Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis said on Wednesday in an interview with official news outlet ANA.
Kontonis is on a visit in Vienna at an invitation of Austria's Justice Minister Wolfgang Bradschester.
The Greek minister had "constructive and sincere" contacts with Bradschester.
The minister will also have a series of contacts with representatives of Austria's legal and judicial system on issues of e-justice, mediation, anti-corruption and the technical assistance provided to the Greek Ministry of Justice.
According to Kontonis, the government has reiterated that it is seeking a climate of cooperation in order to find the solution to the serious problems that Justice is facing.
On the transportation of 2.5 tonnes of heroin in the notorious drug ship "Noor 1" , he said that "it is a matter of enormous political responsibility and the government is dealing with it with due seriousness."
So far, the judiciary and the government have trading barbs, with each side accusing the other of meddling in their independence. The appointment of former chief justice Ms Thanou to the PMs' legal office, a mere ten days after she was pensioned, has only fueled the rhetoric.
