Deputy economy minister voices concern over supposed "clean" exit from memorandums

Deputy Minister of Economy and Development Stergios Pitsiorlas, speaking to the House, sounded the alarm that Greece should not need a new program after Augus.

"We need to be able to plan with greater autonomy than today. This is a central issue, and the government's goal is to avoid a new program after August. Because a new program - in one form or another - means increased oversight and our weakness to form a new policy mix, "he said.

Mr Pitsiorlas also said that statements and projections of a "clean" exit, or credit line should be avoided

"There is no need to make predictions about whether we will succeed without a credit line or not succeed. But it must be our goal not to have any such dependence from August onwards. We paid enough, we suffered too much, we have to exit to the markets So from now until August we have to do everything needed. We should exit to markets and be able to make our own decisions."

The minister also expressed concern about how the country will advance after leaving the memorandums in August.

"We have to design our future in a different way and at this point in the debate we have to be very honest, we need to change mentality and we need to look at the issue of development in a new way."
