Police operation to remove squating migrants from Patras port

A large police operation is underway in the city of Patra, Peloponesse to move hundreds of immigrants to the police compounds.

The concerted police operation is expected to be completed within themorning, as 380 law enforcement officers are taking part in the removal of nearly 550 immigrants who had been squatting in the abandoned factories of Avex and Ladopoulou.

The immigrants will be transported by buses to police stations outside of Achaia in order to check the legality of their identification, or travel documents.

A little earlier tourists witnessed an incredible incident while waiting in the reception at the Port of Patras.

Suddenly, a migrant, who, according to testimonies, had been injured in many parts of his body, ran among them bleeding pprofusely.

According to the same information, the migrant had managed to enter the ISPS zone and then under uncertain conditions fell from a height, onto a barbed wire fence.

Then, in his attempt to leave the area, he chose to pass through the reception station, whicht at that time was crowded with tourists.

It is worth noting that the situation at the new port of Patras remains tense in the wake for a further week, after the murder of a 20-year-old Afghan at the gate of the former Ladopoulos plant when he was shot by a compatriot of his and after the  complaint of a driver , according to which he was threatened by migrants in order to force him to take people in his truck to take them to Italy. Then when he refused, the migrant pulled a gun and threatened him.
