Turkey's outrageous demands: Hand over the 8, so the 2 can have a fair trial

Ankara has excceeded all limits of provocation, as in a letter to European Parliament President Antonio Tajani, the country for the first time officially links the 8 Turkish officers seeking asylum in Greece directly with the two Greek soldiers detained in Adrianople's prison.

"Give us the 8, so the 2 can have a fair trial," is basically the resume of the Turkish letter dated May 31, which the newspaper Ta Nea revealed today.

Ankara's letter to NATO written by Turkey's parliamentary committee chairman, Ahmet Berat Conkar, is responding to the resolution of the European Parliament on the release of the two Greek officers.

According to the newspaper "NEA", Turkey is asking Greece to initially hand over the 8 to Turkey, and then, as it says, it will not go ahead with the liberation of the Greeks, but assures "how they will have a fair trial", proving once again the intransigent attitude ofe the Turkish side.

As for the content of the letter, according to "NEA", the Turkish official directly accuses the European institutions of adopting double standards  in the issues of the two Greeks and the eight Turkish officers, whom he calls "murderers" and "criminals "and denounces the fact that the European Parliament adopted a resolution in favor of the return of the Greeks but not in favor of the Turkish demand.

He also denounces the Greek Justice for hypocrisy because he does not return the Turks "criminals" and leaves them without punishment.

"The Turkish authorities and Turkish society are waiting for the release of the eight murderers immediately and we assure you that the two Greek prisoners will have a fair trial in Turkey," the last paragraph of the letter states.

Finally, he also makes recommendations to the European Parliament, noting that he "expects it to approach the case of the eight Turks impartially and without any support to an EU member state".
