Police have arrested eight suspects over an attack on SYRIZA deputy Petros Konstantineas after a football match on Sunday in Kalamata.
Police are believed to be looking for two more suspects, sources said. The men arrested have been charged with causing bodily harm, abuse and violating an athletics law.
Konstantineas said in a statement to the press that he was a victim of an attack by the far-right. Police have remanded more than 20 people in connection to the attack.
Kostantineas, who before becoming an MP, maintained a bakery in Kalamata and was a referree for local football matches, is being accused of being sarcastic to comments they made over his supporting his party's name deal with FYROM. This, allegedly, angered people that assaulted him.
