Two fire fighting vessels, one from Piraeus and the other from Crete, are expected to be 8 nautical miles southeast of Cape Tainaros, where a fire has broken out in the engine room of the Turkish flagged ship Kilic 1.
The 11-member crew of the ship, all Turkish nationals, have been safely embarked on another cargo ship, whish sped to the area for help. Everyone is well in their health.
The fire broke out due to an unspecified cause, while in the area are the coast guard vessels, but also the tug "Ag. Nikolaos ", which at times is used in fire fighting duties.
Kilic, which had left Tunisia for Turkey, carries twenty tons of diesel fuel in its tanks. In the marine area where the incident is occurring, no marine pollution has been observed so far.
