Featured Signs and symbols have changed in North Macedonia

The Prespes Agreement came into force on Tuesday evening and Greece's northern neighbour was officially renamed the Republic of North Macedonia.
The new name is already being used in official government and ministry websites, and the foreign minister, Nikola Dimitrov, changed his title in his social media profile to Foreign Minister of North Macedonia.

At the same time, the process of changing signposts and passports has begun.
On Wednesday, at 14:00 (Athens time), a sign with the new name of the country, Republic of North Macedonia, was erected at the largest border crossing into the country, in Gevgelija (opposite the Evzoni customs at the border with Greece).

The coordinating interministerial committee of North Macedonia, set up by the government in order to meet the country's commitments under the Prespes Agreement, announced that the country's customs authorities must within three days place stickers on the border crossing signs and two airports in the Republic of North Macedonia (Skopje and Ohrid) with the new name of the country.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will have to replace the signs at the ministry, as well as the seals and the stamps within two weeks, and at the diplomatic and consular representations abroad within three weeks.

The interior ministry will have to start issuing new vehicle registration plates within four months. Meanwhile, the same ministry will provide stickers with the inscription "NMK" for vehicle registration plates.

Furthermore, according to the decisions of the interministerial committee, the issuance of new passports will start by the end of 2019. Meanwhile, upon leaving or entering the Republic of North Macedonia, there will be a stamp on existing travel documents and those issued during the transitional period stating that the travel documents belong to the citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Moreover:
* Within six months, statutes, public buildings and infrastructure will have to be examined and revised and, as far as ancient Greek history and culture are concerned, as part of Greece's historical heritage, the necessary corrective measures and actions are to be taken.
* Within six months, the symbol of the former state flag of the country (depicting the Sun of Vergina) must be removed from any public space and its public use should cease, with the exception of archaeological sites.
