A seven-member team of ofiicers, in the presence of a public prosecutor, carried out an inspection at a house in the area as part of a drug search. Upon their departure they were attacked by a group of about 40 unknown persons, who seemed to have set up an ambush at the junction of Themistokleous and Eresos streets.
There is information that some of the perpetrators had been carrying Kalashnikov and bulletproof vests. Initially, the police attributed the attack to members of the anti-authoritarian space. The perpetrators surprised the officers and managed to retrieve private weapons, ID cards and weapons permits from the two wounded officers, according to information.
The perpetrators injured an officer with a razor on the buttock and punched a colleague of his. Their health is not in danger. The injured officers were targeted after they were cut off from their colleagues, according to what has become known. The perpetrators escaped into narrow streets of the area.
The search conducted by the Port Authority began after the discovery of a Syrian man with a small amount of hashish in Piraeus. The expedition to Exarchia followed, in order to investigate how trafficking was being conducted in a house in the area. A quantity of hashish was found in the house.
