Christine Lagarde on Thursday said she is impressed by Greece's progress in both its fiscal position and its growth rates, in statements after a European Central Bank meeting which she chaired for the first time as its new president.
She said she is aware of Greece's situation since her days as the Chair and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, adding that she welcomes the recovery of the Greek economy and that the results achieved are impressive.
However, she reiterated the ECB's firm position, that in order to see Greek bonds participate in the program of quantitative easing, rules pertaining to the eligibility of securities must be observed.
"When Greek bonds become eligible, they will be included in the ECB's securities trading program," she noted.
