Attica to focus on spreading tourism across region

Promoting lesser-known destinations in Attica and improving the management of tourism and bus flows topped the agenda of talks between the General Panhellenic Federation of Tourism Enterprises (GEPOET) and Attica Regional Governor George Patoulis.
Representing tourist agencies and operators as well as tourist coach companies, GEPOET informed Patoulis of the need for traffic law improvements that will facilitate the operation of tourist bus services, which include the need to stop at various points throughout the city of Athens.
Other topics covered include the development of unfrequented Attica destinations and the balanced distribution of visitors to these through the availability of special interest tourism products.
Patoulis confirmed that the regional authority would soon be setting up a committee responsible for planning and coordinating tourism-related actions and activities across the region that will include the participation of all municipalities and commerce bodies.
“Our goal is to have a tourist distribution plan in place that will encourage multiple visits that are targeted to specific areas,” said Patoulis adding that in this direction, infrastructure will be created to “facilitate visitors to Attica … designed in such a way to highlight areas of Attica that remain untouched by tourism”.
